Can you give a brief summary of Gilles Joalheiros for our readers?
José Gil: “The story began a long time ago. When I was a boy I used to go on holiday with my uncle, Artur Brito, and my cousin, Joaquim Rosas, and we would often talk about jewellery and watches. It was this that grew deep-down inside of me. I understood the way of life from that time and it fascinated me”.
“I grew up and worked in other industries, leaving my interest at one side. Until one day, in 1989, I was offered an invitation to join the jewellery sector; initially I declined but it gained momentum and I eventually accepted. For 20 years I worked in two factories, where I followed the jewellery from its first sketch to final design. This was such a huge role that meant I no longer had time to sleep, at times I worked 36 hours straight.”
