Portugal Jewels has created a unique dress made entirely from traditional Portuguese jewellery, designed for singer Bárbara Bandeira to wear in the music video for “Marcha”, part of the project LUSA Act II.
Valued at around €90,000, the piece weighs 7 kilograms and brings together some of the most iconic elements of Portuguese jewellery — including Corações de Viana, Brincos à Rainha, Brincos Galegos, Filigree motifs, and Caramujos, among other traditional forms, crafted using techniques passed down through generations.
The piece follows a couture-like concept, using jewellery as the structural foundation of the garment itself to create a one-of-a-kind object. Built entirely by hand, the dress was designed specifically to fit the artist’s body and the performative context of the music video.
“Traditional Portuguese jewellery has scale, language, and cultural relevance. This project shows that it can exist beyond the museum and within contemporary creation,” says Joana Bastos Gomes, founder of the brand.
This creation positions Portugal Jewels in a space rarely explored by traditional Portuguese jewellery, bringing it closer to practices associated with international haute couture, where heritage, time, and exclusivity define the value of a piece. By incorporating traditional jewellery into a large-scale musical and visual project, the brand reinforces its role as an active agent in contemporary Portuguese culture.
