The new Chronoswiss Open Gear ReSec Jungle was unveiled at Dubai Watch Week last November 24 and is now available worldwide. The new watch combines a 17th century invention with contemporary design while taking handmade guilloché to the next level.
“The undulating moiré pattern on this watch is inspired by the blue hour in a tropical jungle, with its vivid colours changing from lush green to silvery blue and sombre black,” says Chronoswiss owner and director Oliver Ebstein.
The spiral pattern designed to resemble palm leaves and executed in a limited edition of 50 watches uses a technique unique to Chronoswiss: handmade guilloché coated with chemical vapour sedimentation.
This combination sets up the colour-changing effects and enhances the resulting vivid trompe-l’œil pattern, which makes the engraved waves appear much deeper than they actually are.
The action-packed, three-dimensional hybrid dial construction is made of 42 pieces stacked in multiple layers. Black galvanised bridges support the skeletonised open gear wheel that reveals the main mechanics that drive the hands in split hours, minutes and seconds. On ReSec models, the seconds hand is a 30-second retrograde, running in a semicircle from 4 to 8 o’clock before returning to start again.
“That’s what we do at Chronoswiss: instantly recognisable contemporary watches with details like the onion crown and serrated bezel. While honouring classical horology, in recent years we have radically developed our designs and added innovative and exciting materials, including CVD-coated guilloché and cylindrical index pillars made of solid Super-LumiNova® mixed with zirconium oxide,” says Oliver Ebstein.
