Daniel Merida, Gerald Charles Friend of the Brand, won the most important title of his career last weekend, lifting the trophy at the ATP 250 Plava Laguna Croatia Open, in Umag.
The 21-year-old Spaniard defeated Damir Dzumhur 6-1, 5-7, 6-2, in a final marked by powerful groundstrokes, keeping his composure in the closing moments to seal the victory.
With this triumph, Daniel becomes the third-youngest Umag champion of the decade, behind only Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, and rises to a new career-high, occupying 59th place in the world ranking.
Born in 2004, Daniel Merida has long shown great talent on clay, and this week, in Croatia, he confirmed it in the best possible way, by winning his first title on the main tour.
Gerald Charles congratulates Daniel Merida on this extraordinary achievement and looks forward with anticipation to the continuation of his rise on the international stage.
