“Time Past”: The Vintage Watch Fair opens in Lisbon

The show, held on November 11th in the center of Lisbon, was the meeting point for 23 watch dealers, both professionals and amateurs, and presented a diversity of watches, covering pieces from the 18th century to the year 2000, with great emphasis on for wristwatches from the 50s to 70s.

More than 300 visitors from various parts of the country and visitors of various nationalities were able to admire not only watches, but also pieces, tools and memorabilia linked to the world of watchmaking. Furthermore, two watchmaking workshops, Cinco Em Ponto and TicTime, and Casa Pia de Lisboa, offered services and practical demonstrations during the event. NorteSpring and Benfilstraps also showcased their collections of handcrafted Portuguese straps.

The show was organized by the online watchmaking forum DezDez, a community of enthusiasts and professionals in the sector, and by the Portuguese Institute of Watchmaking (IPR), which aims to promote watchmaking in the country. The organizers, Lourenço Salgueiro, creator of Fórum DezDez, and Nuno Margalha, founder of IPR, highlighted unity and passion for watchmaking as decisive factors for the success of the event.

The future of “Tempo Passado” promises to be bright, with plans to make it an annual event in Lisbon and to expand geographically with editions in Porto. The organization has also committed to continually improving the event, based on suggestions from vendors and participants, which indicates a commitment to the growth and evolution of the watchmaking community in Portugal. The initiative not only promotes collecting and the appreciation of vintage watches, but also points to a growing appreciation of watchmaking as part of the country’s cultural heritage.
